Psychiatric care for adults in Rockville

Bright Horizons Psychiatry is an adult psychiatry practice on Executive Boulevard in Rockville, minutes from North Bethesda and the Pike District. We handle psychiatric evaluations, diagnosis, and medication management, and we stay with you through follow-up as your treatment gets dialed in.

Most people come to us for depression, anxiety, OCD, ADHD, bipolar disorder, or PTSD — including those who’ve taken medication before and never felt the difference they were hoping for. Our psychiatrists take time to understand your history before settling on a plan, and when standard medication isn’t enough, we can go further without sending you across town: options like TMS and Spravato are available in the same office.

We accept most major insurance, including Medicare and Medicaid. See us in person in Rockville, or by telehealth anywhere in Maryland.

Meet your Rockville psychiatry team

Bright Horizons Psychiatry was founded by Dr. Amir Etesam, MD, a board-certified psychiatrist who completed his psychiatry residency at Johns Hopkins and earned his MD from Howard University, where he was inducted into the Alpha Omega Alpha honor society. He started the practice to take on the cases other clinics find hardest — depression, anxiety, and OCD that haven’t responded to standard treatment — and he still leads patient care day to day. He sees patients in both English and Farsi.

You’ll also see our psychiatric nurse practitioners: Anita Paudel, PMHNP-BC — board-certified psychiatric mental health nurse practitioner with about eight years of nursing experience, including psychiatry in both inpatient and outpatient settings. She treats PTSD, anxiety, depression, OCD, and bipolar disorder. Shelly Valliath, NP — board-certified nurse practitioner who holds a master’s in nursing and a second master’s as a nurse practitioner. She treats depression, anxiety, ADHD, insomnia, and PTSD.

Whoever you see takes time with your history, starts a treatment plan, and adjusts it with you over time. Meet the full team on our team page.

What to Expect at Your First Visit

Your first appointment is always in person at our Rockville clinic and runs 60 to 90 minutes. This longer initial visit gives us time to do a thorough psychiatric evaluation, review your medication and treatment history in depth, understand what’s worked and what hasn’t, and have an honest conversation about what makes sense to try next.

If TMS, Spravato, or ketamine is appropriate for your situation, we walk through the process, the timeline, and your specific insurance coverage before anything is scheduled. Same-week appointments are usually available, and no referral is needed for most patients.
