Sound Familiar?

You've Tried the Medications.
They Haven't Worked.

You took the first antidepressant your doctor prescribed. Maybe it didn’t work at all.

So you tried a second one. Then a third. Some made you feel numb. Some caused weight gain. Some killed your drive, your sleep, your personality. And still — the depression stayed.

You’ve been told to “give it more time.” You’ve been handed a new prescription at every appointment. You’ve started to wonder if this is just who you are now.

"It's not the medication that failed you.
It's that medication was the wrong approach."

Tried 2+ antidepressants with little or no relief

This is the clinical definition of treatment-resistant depression — and it affects nearly 30% of people with MDD. It doesn't mean you're beyond help. It means you need a different approach.

Side effects that made life harder, not easier

Weight gain, sexual dysfunction, emotional blunting, insomnia. The cure felt as bad as the disease. TMS works directly on the brain — no systemic side effects, no daily pill.

Therapists who refer you back to medication

Therapy and medication are valuable — but when they haven't moved the needle after years, you deserve a specialist who focuses exclusively on cases like yours.

Feeling like you've run out of options

You haven't. TMS therapy in Rockville, MD has helped patients who had tried everything — and found remission when nothing else did. The science is clear. The results are real.

The Solution

TMS Depression Treatment in Rockville & North Bethesda, MD — A New Kind of Therapy

TMS (Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation) is an FDA-approved, non-invasive outpatient treatment for major depressive disorder that works completely differently from antidepressants.

Instead of flooding your body with chemicals, BrainsWay Deep TMS uses precise magnetic pulses to directly stimulate the areas of your brain that are underactive in depression — waking them up, rebuilding neural pathways, and restoring your brain’s natural ability to regulate mood.

No medication. No anesthesia. No side effects. No downtime. You sit in a chair for 20–30 minutes and walk out ready to carry on with your day. Patients at our Rockville-area TMS clinic typically complete 36 sessions over 6 weeks — and many begin feeling the difference within the first two weeks.

BrainsWay Deep TMS™ — More Powerful Than Standard TMS

Our H-Coil technology reaches deeper brain structures than traditional TMS — making it more effective for severe and long-standing treatment-resistant depression. One of few providers offering this in the Rockville, MD area.

Led by a Johns Hopkins–Trained Specialist

Dr. Amir Etesam exclusively treats treatment-resistant depression — not a generalist who offers TMS as an afterthought. Every treatment plan is personalized by the doctor himself.

Conveniently Located on Rockville Pike

Our North Bethesda clinic is minutes from downtown Rockville, Bethesda, Potomac, Gaithersburg, and Silver Spring — on one of Maryland's most accessible corridors.

Most Insurances Accepted — We Handle Everything

Our team verifies your benefits, submits prior authorization, and guides you through the entire insurance process at no extra cost. Most Maryland patients pay only their standard copay.

Why Choose Us

Why Patients in Rockville & North Bethesda Choose Bright Horizons Psychiatry

Unlike large TMS chains, we offer a private, boutique experience with direct access to a Johns Hopkins–trained specialist — not a rotating staff of mid-level providers.

No Side Effects

TMS doesn't enter your bloodstream. No weight gain, no sexual dysfunction, no fatigue, no emotional blunting. The only common side effect is mild scalp discomfort in the first week — which resolves on its own.

Go Back to Work the Same Day

Every session ends with you walking out the door and getting on with your life. Drive yourself home, return to work, pick up your kids. No recovery time, no restrictions, no anesthesia fog.

Feel Better Within Weeks

Unlike antidepressants that can take months to evaluate, most TMS patients at our Rockville-area clinic begin noticing mood improvements within 2–4 weeks of starting their treatment course.

Deeper Results With Deep TMS

Standard TMS reaches the surface of the brain. BrainsWay Deep TMS reaches deeper structures — which is why it's especially effective for patients with severe, long-standing depression who haven't responded to other treatments.

Your Insurance Likely Covers It

Most Maryland patients pay only their standard copay. Our team handles insurance verification, prior authorization, and all paperwork — so you focus on getting better, not on fighting insurance companies.

Long-Lasting Relief

TMS doesn't just mask symptoms — it changes how your brain functions. Many patients experience lasting improvement for 6–12 months or longer after completing their treatment course at our North Bethesda clinic.

FAQ

We Hear These Questions Every Day. Here Are the Honest Answers.

TMS Therapy Rockville MD

Isn't TMS the same as shock therapy?

Completely different. ECT (electroconvulsive therapy) induces seizures under general anesthesia. TMS uses gentle magnetic pulses — similar to an MRI — with no seizures, no anesthesia, and no memory loss. You sit in a chair, feel a light tapping, and drive home. They are nothing alike.

That’s exactly what the free consultation is for. Dr. Etesam reviews your full psychiatric history, previous treatments, and current symptoms before recommending TMS. If you’re not a good candidate, he’ll tell you that honestly — and point you toward what might work better. No pressure, no sales pitch.
We understand. Each session is only 20–30 minutes, with no prep or recovery time. Many of our Rockville and North Bethesda patients schedule sessions before work, during lunch, or after the school run. Our team works with your schedule — and the results are worth 6 weeks of your time.
Most likely yes. Aetna, Blue Cross Blue Shield, United Healthcare, Cigna, Medicare, Humana, Tricare, and CareFirst all cover TMS for qualifying patients. Our team handles all prior authorization and insurance verification before your first session — so you know exactly what you’ll pay upfront.
TMS has been FDA-approved since 2008 and has an exceptional safety record. The most common side effects are mild scalp discomfort or a headache during the first week — which resolve on their own. There is a rare risk of seizure (<0.1%), and Dr. Etesam screens every patient thoroughly to ensure TMS is safe for them specifically.
Minutes away. Bright Horizons Psychiatry is located in North Bethesda on Rockville Pike — one of Maryland’s most accessible roads. We’re convenient for patients from Rockville, Bethesda, Potomac, Gaithersburg, Silver Spring, Chevy Chase, and across Montgomery County, MD.

Dr Amir Etesam is a gem of a doctor. I was so nervous going into his office but he eased my mind with his knowledgeable expertise along with his kindness and detailed explanation of my options for treatment and who I need to see. He has excellent bedside manners and genuinely cares. He took his time answering my questions. Not rushing like so many others. For my particular case he gave me three references to call so I can set up an appointment to go see a neuropsychiatrist instead. He left open the fact that I can always go back to his office. I wish I could have been treated by him. I have been to many different doctors throughout my life. By far he is the best. I can't thank him enough for such a positive experience. His team is pleasant, friendly and making an appointment was easy. Very professional. The office is clean and the environment is light and positive.

As a psychotherapist myself, I’m very selective about where I refer my clients for medication management, psychological testing, and advanced treatments and Dr. Etesam and his team truly stand out as exceptional. Their practice offers an impressive and thoughtful range of services, from traditional psychiatry to TMS and ketamine treatments, all delivered with a level of care, professionalism, and integrity that is rare to find. I consistently feel confident referring my clients here because I trust the quality of care and the clinical expertise across the entire team. On a personal level, I am also a patient of Anita Paudel, and she has been absolutely wonderful! I always feel heard, supported, and well cared for. I highly recommend Dr. Etesam and his team to both colleagues and my own clients seeking high-quality, comprehensive psychiatric care.
