How to get started with Medicare

Three steps. You do not need to sort out the insurance paperwork yourself.

Tell us you have Medicare. Have your Medicare card ready so we can pull benefits on the first call.

  2. We confirm your coverage

Our staff checks Original Medicare or your Medicare Advantage product and tells you what to expect before anything is scheduled.

  3. Come to Rockville for your evaluation

Your first visit is in person at 6000 Executive Blvd. Most new patients are seen within 3–5 business days.

Original Medicare and Advantage plans differ

Original Medicare Part B covers outpatient psychiatry under standard rules. Medicare Advantage products can add referral requirements, different telehealth rules, and their own prior authorization criteria for TMS or Spravato. That is why we run your specific member ID before your appointment rather than assuming coverage from the Medicare brand name alone.

If you are not sure whether you have Original Medicare or a Medicare Advantage plan, bring your card when you call. We will sort it out.

Medicare questions we get most often

Do you accept Medicare in Rockville?

Yes. Bright Horizons Psychiatry accepts Medicare at our Rockville office for outpatient psychiatric care, including evaluation and medication management. We verify Original Medicare or your Medicare Advantage product before your first visit.

Do I need a referral to see a psychiatrist on Medicare?

Usually no for Original Medicare Part B. Some Medicare Advantage HMO products require a referral. We catch that when we verify benefits and tell you before anything is scheduled.

What psychiatric services does Medicare cover here?

Medicare Part B covers outpatient psychiatric evaluation and medication management. Deep TMS is covered for depression when medical necessity criteria are met. Spravato may also be covered with prior authorization. We confirm coverage for your specific plan before you start.

Is Deep TMS covered by Medicare?

Yes, for treatment-resistant depression when medical necessity criteria are met — typically documentation that antidepressants failed to help. Prior authorization is often required for Medicare Advantage. We review your history against those criteria and submit the authorization ourselves.

Where is the Rockville office?

6000 Executive Blvd, Suite 101, Rockville, MD 20852 — on the 355 corridor a few minutes from Twinbrook Metro. Convenient to Rockville, North Bethesda, Bethesda, Silver Spring, Gaithersburg, and the wider DC area.

Can I use Medicare for telehealth visits?

Telehealth follow-ups for established patients are billed to the same Medicare coverage as office visits. You must be physically in Maryland at the time of the appointment. We confirm telehealth rules when we verify benefits.

How soon can I be seen?

Most new patients are seen within 3–5 business days. Call (240) 599-1001 or book online and mention Medicare and the Rockville office.

Do you also accept Medicare in Frederick?

Yes. Both Maryland locations bill the same plans, including Medicare. Pick whichever office is easier to reach. Deep TMS is Rockville only.
